Üdvőzli Önt a Budapest

Budapest Welcomes You!  That message greeted the group as they got off the tarmac bus and they walked into the Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport on Sunday at noon. After grabbing luggage and purchasing a "week pass" for all public transportation for the week, the group located their first bus and began their journey to the Maverick Hostel

It was a comical afternoon. The M-3 Metro line, which would have taken the group from the bus stop to the Metro Station in front of the "hostel", was closed for the weekend for renovation work. The alternate way to get to the center of town was via another bus, which dropped the group about three blocks from the hostel.  But before that, there was an incident on the M-3 bus, where the bus door apparently caught a passenger's hand, resulting in the whole busload of people get off the bus and transfer to the next bus. In true, "you carry what you pack" mode, the group set out for the hostel.

As it turned out, the reservation was not at the Maverick Hostel, but at the Maverick City Lodge in the District VII.  This proved to be a great move, but extra walking. Without one word of complaint, the group back-tracked and then walked a little further, arriving shortly before 3 at the Maverick City Lodge. With rooms not yet available, the group went and had "Linner" - you got it, the meal between lunch and dinner - at the adjacent restaurant, Fat Mama. Feeling energized, the group awaited their guide, Andras' arrival for an afternoon orientation walk of Budapest.

Andras toured the group through District VII (nightlife, food trucks, restaurants) and then on to other areas as well. The orientation was good, just long enough and ended with a bit of gelato. We bid Andras farewell until Monday morning, had the first reflection of PT 2019, journaled and finally went to bed for a well-deserved good night's sleep.
